Rochester Institute of Technology Croatia, or formerly known as the American College of Management and Technology is a college of the Rochester Institute of Technology located in Dubrovnik, and in Zagreb. It is the only school in Croatia which grants both American and Croatian degrees.

Rochester Institute of Technology Croatia – Zagreb location, is looking for a professional and reliable candidate to work in an international working environment and take on intensive work engagement on the position:

Finance manager (m/f) - Zagreb


  • Develop and maintain the appropriate infrastructure to ensure that:
    • accounting, accounts receivable, and capital transactions are recorded timely and accurately, in compliance with internal policies ( in Croatia and in Rochester ) and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP);
    • departments University-wide receive quality service by answering accounting-related questions or making a referral to the appropriate functional area;
    • the College accurately and timely completes applicable accounting and tax reporting to the Croatian authorities
  • Develop and maintain broad comprehensive knowledge of all applicable requirements for financial reporting for higher education institutions. Duties include:
    • monitoring the external environment for changes in regulatory requirements, new accounting pronouncements and emerging high risk areas and continually reviewing agency announcements, audit reports, and other communications from professional organizations;
    • monitoring Croatian tax regulations;
    • working closely with Controller’s management to develop processes to ensure compliance and internal controls designed to mitigate risk
  • Prepare interim quarterly financial reports including forecasts of fiscal year-end results of operations and narratives explaining significant fluctuations in year-over-year results for the College’s balance sheet and statement of activities. Assist with preparation of the board meeting statements and analysis including analysis / ratios and presentations for senior management and the Board of Trustees
  • Manage property, plant and equipment processes to ensure that:
    • fixed assets are recorded timely and accurately;
    • reconciliations between Oracle Assets and the general ledger, including CIP are performed timely;
    • a complete University-wide physical inventory is performed annually;
    • in conjunction with FMS staff, plant projects are closed timely
  • Provide oversight for the College’s accounts receivable function, including billing and collection procedures
  • Ensure that all accounting and receivable processes are effective, efficient and documented; that general ledger transactions are appropriate, posted timely, and accurately captured in the University’s financial statements; and, that cross-validation rules, allocations and other controls are in place for the accurate recording of accounting transactions
  • Provide oversight to ensure that internal and external auditor’s requests are submitted timely and questions are answered promptly. Participate in the timely completion of the year-end audit and the accurate issuance of the financial statements by reviewing lead sheets, roll-forward analysis, footnotes and other documentation prior to submission
  • Develop and maintain processes and procedures to ensure that:
    • approvals of procurement and disbursement transactions are compliant with the College’s signature delegation policy;
    • requests for Oracle access are properly authorized;
    • journal entries have the necessary approvals prior to posting. Ensure that approver records are updated annually through the various re-certification processes
  • Work with the RIT Director of Financial Reporting to conform to their annual general ledger closing schedule in conjunction with the financial statement preparation and year-end audits. Work with the College staff to ensure timely monthly financial closings and fiscal year-end processing for RIT including oversight of monthly account activity preparation and reconciliation for inclusion by RIT into Oracle. Also ensure timely Croatian fiscal year-end closing
  • Reconcile and monitor cash balances including reporting to management for possible transfer of funds
  • Provide oversight of the University’s procurement and travel by continuously evaluating and implementing risk mitigation strategies to ensure viability
  • Complete special projects as requested by management


  • Undergraduate Degree in economics, ideally with a major in accounting and/or finance
  • Professional certification in the field is desirable
  • 6 to 8 years related accounting and supervisory experience required, ideally with an international organization
  • Comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices required; prior audit experience preferred
  • Prior experience working with a fully-integrated enterprise wide financial system and strong PC and MS Office skills required
  • Prior demonstrated experience developing and implementing internal control systems and process improvements preferred
  • Exceptional written and oral communication, both in Croatian and English
  • Knowledge of MS Office tools
  • Strong interpersonal skills including listening, consensus building and training
  • Structured approach to implementation of project tasks and problem solving
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other departments and facilitate group meetings
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated experience in moving complex ventures from concept to implementation
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and exercise professional judgment in carrying out all assigned responsibilities
