Rijeka Gateway d.o.o. (RGW), a joint venture between APM Terminals and ENNA Logic, is undertaking a significant capital greenfield project, the development of the Rijeka Gateway Terminal, in Rijeka, Croatia. The goal of the project is to both construct and start-up the new container terminal for the shareholders, as well as expand the business value and proposition for entire region and hinterland for the main customer, Maersk.

Equipment Reliability Manager (m/f)

Location: Rijeka

The overall scope of this project entails the overall design, civil works (underground infrastructure, yard, new buildings & facilities, renovation of an existing, large warehouse), equipment deliveries (a/o STSs and RTGs), associated IT components, integration with the existing (port) infrastructure, operational start-up and integration of the whole into a working system ready for operational go-live.

The objective of this position is to safely and efficiently execute all planned (non breakdown) preventative and corrective maintenance activities on an equipment group within a terminal.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Ensure all preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance and inspection activities are completed efficiently based on calendar, running hours, condition etc.
  • Ensure KPIs for equipment availability, reliability, cost etc. are met and correctly recorded for equipment under their responsibility.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained in accordance with local legislation and standards specified by APMT global functions.
  • Contribute to global APMT equipment and reliability forums, exchanging data and sharing best practice to improve global equipment maintenance strategies.
  • Lead and continually review equipment breakdowns, corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance history, implementing a process of continual improvement to eliminate major or repetitive failures.
  • Lead defect elimination/root cause analysis reviews for major or repetitive failures.
  • Monitor equipment reliability and availability statistics and support the terminal to improve overall equipment availability & reliability to achieve operational service requirements.
  • Accountable for ensuring the integrity of all equipment under their ownership, considering the age and service of equipment, through development and execution of appropriate preventive, predictive and inspection activities.
  • Ensure all planned preventive and corrective maintenance activities are executed safely with the aim of reducing risks to as low as reasonably possible.
  • Ensure the safety of all technicians working within their team, leading by example in their own behaviours and practices.
  • Ensure the most efficient use of their team, working closely with the Work Planner and Scheduler to ensure work is planned accurately and scheduled realistically.
  • Ensure their team have all necessary skills and competencies required to perform their normal duties.
  • Develop the skills and competencies of their team members, taking into account succession planning and career progression where relevant.
  • Manage contracts for outsourcing of services or specialist activities as required.
  • Manage spare parts inventory requirements for all equipment under their ownership.
  • Develop budget for all planned preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment under their control.
  • Proactively track and manage cost of maintenance for their equipment, intervening when costs escalate and identifying ways to reduce costs.

Critical Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience an operational M&R or facility management related environment.
  • Understanding of asset maintenance planning metrics, principles, its processes and requirements.
  • Experience in a strong service oriented, stakeholder-management-required environment.
  • Understanding of (APMT used) software data systems and their interfaces is an advantage.

  • Strong leadership and motivational skills.
  • Structured, driven, self-motivating and result orientated.
  • Practical, planning and work scheduling capabilities, ready to improve and challenge the status quo.
  • Highly disciplined – following through on actions and ensuring necessary documentation.
  • Team player, able to collaborate and align on regular basis.
  • Persuasive, being able to influence colleagues, contractors and suppliers in order to reach the target.
  • High quality awareness and ability to work with constant care.
  • Excellent communication skills, where sufficient level of English is a must, and Croatian is a must.

  • Bachelor’s degree / preferably master’s degree in any field of engineering, or related field (Equivalent education and work experience may be substituted).
