EHS Manager Leaf Operations (m/f)

The Job holder's main purpose is to develop, implement and maintain an integrated management system that ensures best practice performance in environmental, health & safety (EHS) management.

Main responsibilities:

  • Ensure controls and solutions for all EHS risks are in compliance with British American Tobacco policies and standards and local regulations; in order to minimise the risk of accidents, occupational illnesses or environmental impairment, thus contributing to protecting the continuity of the market product supply.
  • Support the business to minimize impacts on environment through good resource management.
  • Plan and introduce programmes that increase EHS awareness, skills and practices among management and employees in order to ensure limited risks in EHS matters.
  • Motivate and guide line management in the implementation of best practice EHS procedures and solutions according to BAT-Policy.
  • Ensure that complete, accurate and fully referenced records are kept and maintained of all licenses, permits, inventories, measurement and data in EHS matters, in line with group policies, in order to provide evidence of compliance or non-compliance to legal and company.
  • Effectively manage the EHS related expenditure and assets within the agreed budget.
  • Prepare, propose and gain approval of the EHS objectives and budget in close cooperation with peers, based on the short and medium term objectives of the local business and group EHS objectives & standards.
  • Provide support/ direction to ensure line managers understand their EHS responsibilities through the co-ordination of the business unit EHS steering group. Support senior management team in the identification and evaluation of all existing and potential EHS risks to the operating company's businesses & formulate appropriate risk management plans.
  • Give support in the implementation of EHS management systems, programmes and procedures as described in the British American Tobacco system manuals to achieve the EHS policy objectives and targets and in accordance with the legal system within the country.
  • Organise and conduct audits, identify, evaluate existing and potential threats on EHS issues through ensuring risk assessment are undertaken for all tasks and activities performed. Recommend actions to restore a situation to BAT standards and control their timely implementation, in order to reduce risks in these areas. Additionally, undertake regular self audits to monitor progress and plan improvements.
  • Be properly informed of all applicable national or international laws, regulations and codes of practice on EHS issues affecting the local company and determine and recommend the companies' response to them.
  • Ensure that complete, accurate and fully referenced records are kept and maintained for EHS related licences, permits, inventories, measurements and data arising from the day-to-day management of all EHS matters affecting the company, and to provide evidence of compliance or non-compliance to regulatory or company policy requirements.

Requirements:

  • University/engineering degree
  • Proven experience in managing EHS area in a production environment
  • Preferably: possession of a recognised diploma in health and safety practice
  • Sound understanding of risk management principles and application to the business
  • Good knowledge of local EHS law and legal processes
  • Strategic vision: able to set long term objectives, develop the EHS systems, initiate change and continuous benchmarking
  • Willingness to work hard, multi-task and deliver results upon milestones & deadlines
  • Ability to influence & coach others, good presentation and negotiation skills
  • Ability to build and maintain good relationships with internal and external partners
  • Proven good communication skills
  • English (spoken and written) – upper intermediate or above
  • Confident PC user (Word, Excel, Power Point, other standard MS applications)
